Mexico Prepares to Hold the Region’s Most Important Internet Meeting

Within days, Mexico will host the first major annual meeting of the Internet Address Registry for Latin America and the Caribbean (LACNIC), which is being organized together with NIC Mexico and set to meet in Cancun.

LACNIC 21 will open on May 4th at the Paradisus Cancun Resort. The event will bring together more than 400 experts and professionals representing Latin American and Caribbean organizations, private companies, governments and universities.

The meeting is set to take place simultaneously with two issues that are critical to the Internet: the announcement marking the start of the IPv4 Internet address exhaustion phase in the LACNIC region and the call for the creation of a new Internet governance model following the United States’ decision to transition its role in the IANA functions.

It is no coincidence that the event will be held in Mexico, as on this opportunity the Internet community will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of .MX, the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Mexico.

Among other important topics, the LACNIC 21 program also includes the first successful IPv6 experiences and current computer security challenges.
