First Latin American Internet Society Chair

Raúl Echeberría, Executive Director of LACNIC, was re-elected as Chair of the Internet Society (ISOC), a position he will hold for another year. Mr. Echeberría had been appointed to the board in 2008 by the members of ISOC, an organization of which LACNIC is a member.
New Domain Name Rules

In June, the ICANN Board of Directors approved a plan for allowing an increase in the number of Internet address endings, called generic top-level domains. This does not mean that anyone will be able to define an ending of their choice and turn Internet navigation into chaos. Larger Headquarters, More Office Space
With an investment of almost two million dollars, LACNIC has begun a project to expand its headquarters in Montevideo that will double the capacity of its facilities and strengthen their role as technological center and meeting place for the region's Internet community. The project is now underway and it is expected that the new facilities will open in March 2012.
